How to Register a Visa Gift Card for Malls By Kat Black, eHow Contributor

Found This Helpful

Visa gift cards for malls are prepaid cards that can be used at any store that accepts Visa, even if the store is not located at the mall that issued the card. Many malls, such as Simon Mall and Eastland Mall, offer these gift cards in denominations ranging from $20 to $750. Purchasers load these cards with an amount of money, and once you spend that amount, you cannot add funds to the card. Some cards become active upon purchase, but for others, the recipient must register the card before using it for the first time.

Instructions

  • 1. Go to the website of the mall that issued your Visa gift card. This information can be found on the back of your card or in the information packet you received with your card. For example, to register a Simon Mall Visa gift card, go to the address provided in the Resources section.

  • 2. Enter your account number in the space provided. On the Simon Mall site, you can find this space in the right-hand column of the registration page, in the box labeled "Register Your Gift Card." As with all Visa cards, your account number is the 16-digit number that appears on the front of the card.

  • 3. Enter your security code in the space provided. Your security code is the three-digit number that appears on the back of the card, at the end of your account number. The security code is typically printed in a larger font so that it is easily recognizable.

  • 4. Provide any additional information, as requested. For most Visa gift cards for malls, you only need to enter your account number and security code. Some cards require the last four digits of your telephone number. For first-time users, the default security code is "9999." Once you enter this information, you have completed the registration process.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the item you wish to purchase exceeds the amount on your Visa gift card for malls, ask the merchant to split the amount. The merchant can then charge your card for one amount, and you can pay the rest with cash, check or credit.

  • Be sure to sign the back of your Visa gift card to prevent others from fraudulently using your card.

  • Visa gift cards for malls have hidden fees. For example, some cards add a $2 service charge for each transaction. Find out the fee structure associated with your card by reading the printed material that came with your card.
