It's after midnight. You've awakened from your sleep by the awful realization that it's your nephew's thirteenth birthday and you've forgotten to send him a gift. And since he lives three thousand miles away, you know you can never get it to him on time. What do you do to avoid being labeled the forgetful uncle? It's easy. Just send him an online gift certificate.

The Internet has become an important---if not vital---part of our lives. You can search for homes, watch the evening newscast you missed, and even find your future spouse. And email has now become a more popular method of mail delivery than the U.S. Postal Service. So it seems only fitting that a gift once received from your gray-haired grandmother at your curbside mailbox can now be received in your email box.

Things You'll Need
  • Computer with Internet connection
  • Credit or debit card

Instructions

  • 1. Visit Amazon.com website and click on the "Gift Cards" link.

  • 2. Click on the link "Email a Gift Card."

  • 3. Select a design for your gift card. For example, if it's your nephew's birthday, you would select the "Happy Birthday" design.

  • 4. Enter an amount from $5 to $5, 000. The lowest amount Amazon's drop-down menu shows is $25. If you want to send the minimum amount of $5, you must enter it manually.

  • 5. Input the recipient's email address.

  • 6. Personlize your gift card by adding the recipient's name, who the gift is from, and a special message like "Happy Birthday, Maurice. Love, Your Wonderful and Terrific Uncle Lawrence."

  • 7. Enter your credit or debit card information to complete the purchase.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember to carefully review the terms and conditions when purchasing your gift certificates. There are always limitations on how you can redeem or use your gift certificates.
