Many people wish to pay for goods and services online, but don't want to sign up for services like PayPal. Prepaid debit cards can be used on Internet purchases and do not incur costly monthly fees. Instead, they are sold with a one-time service charge. This makes prepaid cards viable for short-term use. However, after a certain period of inactivity, (generally 6 to 12 months) prepaid debit card issuers may charge service fees. Prepaid debit cards also eventually expire, similar to credit cards.
