Making your own picture cards is an inexpensive way to demonstrate your creativity and a personalized touch. Microsoft Word contains built-in templates created specifically for picture cards. The templates allow you to customize the card to suit the occasion. Adding your own picture to a card allows you to personalize it while adding a meaningful, heartfelt message.

Instructions

  • 1. Open Microsoft Word and click the "Microsoft Office" button. The Microsoft Office button is located at the top left corner of your blank document. Click "New." On the left side, under the template section, choose "Greeting Cards." Navigate through the many types of cards. If you cannot locate a card that suits your needs, Microsoft Office Online contains many free downloadable templates available to its users. You can search the online templates by typing a description into the search box at the top of your screen.

  • 2. Double click the template you would like to use. Your template will appear in an editable Microsoft Word document. Depending on the type of card you picked, some of the data may be upside-down.

  • 3. Personalize the card. Take advantage of the many formatting features available on Microsoft Word. Experiment with fonts and colors and add pictures to the document. You can add photos using Word's clip art gallery or from your computer. If the template you chose already contains pictures, you can right click the picture and delete or change it. When editing your card, be sure to follow the correct orientation.

  • 4. Prepare to print your card. Make sure your printer is on and loaded with the correct paper.

  • 5. Click the "Microsoft Office" button and choose "Print." Select "Print" again from the new menu. Select "Properties" from the Print dialog box and select the setting for printing pictures. Click "Print."

  • 6. Remove the card from the printer and fold it accordingly. If you selected a double-fold card, fold the page from top to bottom and then from side to side.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your computer does not have Microsoft Word, there are many programs available on the Internet to download. Check out two free program options in the Resources section.
